Summary. — The Lorraine coalfields have been taking an ever-increasing proportion of the french production of coal : their percentage has risen from 25 % in 1960, to 45 % in 1979. The coalfields of Lorraine yield about 9 500 000 tons of coal, and the target aimed at is a yearly production of 11000 000 tons by 1981. The percentage of coal transformed by the H.B.L. themselves is getting bigger and bigger and has risen from 38.8 % in 1973, to 46.1 % in 1979. This increase is mainly due to the emergence of bigger power-plants in Lorraine.
