The main geomorphological features of the coral shores of the eastern and southern Sinai Peninsula are reviewed. Reefs rest mostly upon coarse sedimentary fans fed by wadis and often coalescing into narrow coastal plains. Present-time fringing reefs are narrow but prosperous. Pleistocene fringing reefs are found in the South-East, consisting of successive, superposed structures. Other Pleistocene reefs at Ras Muhammad, southernmost tip of the peninsula, are faulted in NW-SE blocks. Narrow, elongated present-time reefs, outeropping in the southern parts of Elat and Suez Gulfs, resembling those known as shab in Hedjaz and Asir, depend on faulting as old reefs at Ras Muhammad.
