Mondialisation, déterritorialisation, reterritorialisation (Globalization and territory)

The relations between globalization and territories are contradictory, they seem to deny and to reinforce them at the same time. On the one hand it seems that the generalized competition between all territories of the world, thanks to the increased mobility of goods, capital and information, puts them all on the same plan. But it also reinforces the territoriality, with the market of "embedded" products, especially in the agribusiness sector. Territory becomes more and more a commodity, "sold" for consumption on the spot or remotely, and globalization thus induces, at the same time, a de-territorialization and a re- territorialization of the World.Les relations entre mondialisation et territoires sont contradictoires, elles semblent en même temps les nier et les renforcer. D'une part il semble que la compétition généralisée entre tous les territoires du monde, grâce à la facilité accrue de circulation des marchandises et des capitaux et des informations, les mette tous sur le même plan. Mais d'autre part elle renforce la territorialité, par la demande nouvelle de produits « enracinés », notamment dans le domaine agroalimentaire. Le territoire devient de plus en plus une marchandise, que l'on « vend » pour la consommation surplace ou à distance, et la mondialisation induit donc, en même temps, à une déterritorialisation et à une re-territorialisation du monde.Théry Hervé.
