Pausanias as a biographer. The incidence of the lives of Philopoimen and Epaminondas upon the Periegete’s view of history: a few considerations. Pausanias offers biographical excursuses about the lives of two major Greek political figures, Epaminondas and Philopoimen: although he must certainly have enjoyed telling the stories of their lives, he deals with them more in a historical than in a biographical way. On the one hand, similarities in the way the two “Lives” are structured suggest a precise litterary aim.
