Maternity care in Finland has achieved a high level of safety during childbirth in worldwide comparisons. However, the quality of care cannot be evaluated based only on maternal or neonatal mortality and morbidity. As such, the maternal childbirth experience has been established as one crucial measurement to assess the quality of care. The childbirth experience has significant immediate and long-lasting implications on the wellbeing of the mother, the infant, and the entire family.
