Two events have recently caught the attention of many people : the 250th anniversary of the death of J.S. Bach and the Lutheran - Catholic Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification. They can be compared with one another. The consensus proclaimed by the Declaration is made all the richer through the different perceptions that the two Churches have of its purpose, with each of the parties recognising the other's approach as complementary to its own. Such an attitude implies that the debate which is carried out on the level of theological rationality is accompanied by a spiritual approach influenced by Einfühlung.
