The Middle Ages haves often been qualified as an « Age of Faith ». Though this undoubtedly is true, the epoch was not entirely without its sceptics and even atheists, a subject neglected nearly completly in the field of mediaeval studies. The present paper collects some of the indications which can be found in different types of sources from the prechristian North to the Renaissance. Whereas investigation is easy if concerned with unbelieving philosophers (like the Paris Averroits condemned in 1277) or the « great » of history (like the emperor Frederic II), it is much more difficult to come across informations on agnostics from the lower layers of society who, however, existed, too.Le Moyen Age a souvent été appelé : « Age de la foi ».
