Multi-species electroactive biofilms (EABs) are able to exchange electrons with an electrode surface. EABs are mainly used in bioelectrochemical systems (BES), where the generation of electricity is difficult to sustain over the long term. Generally, EAB electroactivity reaches a maximum (Jmax) that declines gradually after a few tens of days of BES operation. In this context, the typical use of macroelectrodes for testing the hypotheses related to the loss in the EAB electroactivity difficults the setting and control of homogeneous conditions, coupled to the singlepoint destructive analyses techniques, where the EAB spatio-temporal evolution is clearly lost.
