It was the hope of this study to accomplish one main objective. That objective was to determine how prevalent occupational burnout is among residential counselors of juvenile delinquents and to see if these levels of burnout could be contributed to staff demographics. Occupational burnout was measured by the MBI (Maslach Burnout Inventory), a self-report questionnaire measuring emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and persona] accomplishment (Mas1ach, 1981). It was found that nearly three-fifths of the counselors who participated in this study had high to moderate levels of burnout.
