The struggle against industrial poisons and making of the law on industrial diseases In this article, we wish to make up for the lack of historical research around the genesis of the 1919 French law on industrial diseases. We show the role of hygienists concerned with work-related poisoning between the Monarchie de Juillet and the Second Empire. We stress the long-underestimated contribution of the labor movement to this history, from the reports of the worker delegations at the Paris World Fair in 1867 to the congress of the CGT trade union in 1906.
