Agriculture familiale et propriété foncière en Lituanie ( Family farms and land property in Lithuania)

The fall of the Soviet system in Lithuania and the return to the political independence have lead the way to a process of economic and social transition towards Market economy. As for agriculture, this change in the macro- economic background went together with a structural reform, which intended to transform collective farms - that is to say kolkhoz and sovkhoz — into capitalistic, self-managing enterprises. The restoring of private property in land ownership appeared to be a major factor to initiate the decollectivisation process and the transformation of social relationships in the agricultural sector. The restitution of the nationalized lands to their former owners and the privatisation of the auxiliary plots from the Soviet era have made the family farms to piece together again. Family farming has thus become the dominant form of the agricultural model ; moreover, the characteristic feature of this process is a spatial diversification, as a result of historical legacies, and the setting-up of differentiated agricultural regions.La chute du système soviétique en Lituanie et le retour à l'indépendance politique ont ouvert la voie à un processus de transition économique et sociale vers l'économie de marché. Dans l'agriculture, ce changement de l'environnement macro-économique a été accompagné par une réforme structurelle qui visait à transformer les exploitations collectives (kolkhozes et sovkhozes) en entreprises disposant de l 'autonomie de gestion. Le rétablissement de la propriété privée de la terre a été un facteur majeur pour engager la décollectivisation et la transformation des rapports sociaux dans l 'agriculture. La restitution des terres nationalisées aux anciens propriétaires et la privatisation des exploitations auxiliaires de l 'époque soviétique ont déclenché un processus de reconstitution des exploitations familiales, lesquelles deviennent une forme dominante du modèle agricole. En outre, cette reconstitution de l'agriculture familiale est marquée par une diversification spatiale, liée aux héritages historiques, avec l 'affirmation de régions agricoles différenciées.Mačiulytė Jurgita.
