Contrary to commanderies implanted in the low country, the establishments in urbanized areas rarely crossed the centuries following the French Revolution. For this reason, the Montfrin commanderie (Gard), most medieval buildings of which although strongly damaged, were fossilized in today’s housing environment, would deserve a study. The Templars settled in the low Gardon valley in the middle of the XIIth century following an important donation. As early as 1169, they had erected, in the villeneuve of Montfrin, a domus and a church which was to become a parish centre.
