The aim of this paper is to review the works and the date of Sextus Empiricus bringing together the philosophical and medical testimonies : 1. Sextus is, in Diogenes Laertios (IX 115-116), the last but one sceptic philosopher in the line of Timon, but he is also an empiric physician. 2. Analysis of the passages in the works of Sextus showing that he is a physician ; problem of his belonging to empiric or methodic school. 3.
