A silty holocene terrace, known around the Mediterranean, began at Olympia with the Roman Empire and was grown up during the Middle Ages (8-14/1 5th c). This upbuilding, the first after the Wurmian period, in relationship with gentle erosion from soft rock slopes, is attributed to a complex development (different according to the regional climates and the historical trend ?) combining climatic - grass areas damaged by small drier variations - and anthropogene causes - in the Neolithic period stripping of the thin soils developed during the Atlantic optimum, then overgrazing in forested areas and arboriculture/viticulture upon hilly slopes -.
