The Shroud of Turin first comes to light in History in the middle of the 14th Century in Lirey (France, dep. Aube). The claim that it was a true relic of Christ was opposed from the start by Diocesan Bishop of Troyes, but it was eventually approved by the Avignon Pope, Clement VII. In 1453 it became the property of the Duke of Savoy and it remained in his family until the death of the last King of Italy. It was photographed for the first time in 1898 provoking two opposing responses. The Historians, following Ulysse Chevalier, considered it a hoax. The specialists from the world of medicine and the Natural Sciences believed it authentic ; underlining this by all sorts of demonstrations using the most advanced techniques of modern science. ...
