Quand l’écriture vive devient patrimoine : Les manuscrits d’écrivains à l’Exposition de 1937

The International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques, organized in Paris in 1937, brought for the first time to a broad audience hand written manuscripts of celebrated authors. Conceived by Julien Cain and Paul Valery, this «Sketch of a museum of literature» sought to displace the center of gravity of the literary inheritance, previously assimilated with published art, towards the activity of writing by making visible the work of the writer, «live writing» that was previously invisible. Photography played a key role in this effort : magnifications of manuscripts had the effect of plunging spectators in a compelling graphic environment. Beyond the fact that this museographic event helped to institutionalize interest in writing, it is necessary to investigate the direct articulation between photography and writing as exposed.L'exposition internationale des arts et techniques organisée à Paris en 1937 montrait pour la première fois à un large public des manuscrits autographes d’écrivains célèbres. Conçue par Julien Cain et Paul Valéry, cette «Ébauche d’un musée de la Littérature» visait à déplacer le centre de gravité du patrimoine littéraire, auparavant assimilé aux oeuvres publiées, vers l’activité d’écriture, en rendant visible le travail de l’écrivain, «écriture vive» jusqu’alors invisible. La photographie y jouait un rôle clé : les agrandissements de manuscrits eurent pour effet de plonger les spectateurs dans un environnement graphique saisissant. Au-delà du constat que cet événement muséographique contribua à institutionnaliser l’engouement pour l’autographe, il convient de s’interroger sur l’étroite articulation entre photographie et écriture ainsi exposée.En la Exposición Internacional de Artes y Técnicas organizada en Paris en 1937, el gran público podía ver por primera vez manuscritos autógrafos de escritores famosos. Realizada por Julien Cain y Paul Valery, este «bosquejo de museo de la literatura» ponía el acto de escritura al centro del patrimonio literario, antes de las obras terminadas y publicadas. Mostraba el trabajo del escritor, «la escritura viva», que antes nunca se veía. La fotografía lo hacia posible, con ampliación fotográfica espectacular que sumergía el público en un ambiento gráfico. Este evento contribuyó a un gusto institucional por el autógrafo. Sobre todo, cuestiona la relación entre fotografía y escritura expuesta.Bustarret Claire.
