Jean Dubuffet thought of museums as «morgues for embalming» or «citadels of official culture», and denounced «the sterilized actions of their culturales pomp». The initiatives he led between 1945 and 1976, in order to define and finally institutionalize Art Brut, forged in spite of apparent contradictions, a veritable museological reflection towards outsider works. Our article attempts to identify the strategies for the conservation and presentation of Art Brut by examining the initiatives that were prevalent during the inception of its very notion.
