Persistent subretinal fluid after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) surgery is responsible for delayed recovery, and may affect the final visual outcome. We reviewed the pathophysiological principles and therapeutic options from the literature, and we report the results from a subretinal fluid cytology study.
