The ancient carved wooden facade of the sanctuary, as well as the carved panels of the maṇḍapa and ceiling of the temple of Markuladevī in the valley of the Candrabhaga in Lahul (Himachal Pradesh, India) is counted among the most beautiful artistic creations in the area. The absence of proper textual sources or a foundation inscription is regrettable since this temple is a major symbol of the presence of Vaishnavism at the northwestern border of the Indianised world.
