Rice Culture and Water Control in Democratic Kampuchea. In Democratic Kampuchea, agriculture is the main topic for the leaders. They set up collectivism in two different ways : 1) the cooperatives where the very young children, the married people and the old ones work on a sedentary basis ; 2) the mobile teams of young workers who go throughout the country. From three years on, everybody is a producer. Work is divided according to the age and the strength of individuals. The major changes and new realizations concern, on the one hand the modifications in the parcels and the transplanting ;on the other hand the construction of irrigation masterpieces which are erected all over the country : their quality is variable though improving. The production is likely to the one before, but exportations have grown ; this fact might explain the starvation of the people, at least partially.Dans le Kampuchea démocratique, la priorité est donnée à l'agriculture. Le collectivisme s'installe avec la formation : 1 ) de coopératives où les très jeunes enfants, les adultes mariés et les vieillards travaillent en sédentaires ; 2) de brigades mobiles de jeunes travailleurs qui parcourent le pays. On est productif dès l'âge de trois ans. La répartition du travail se fait selon l'âge et surtout la force des individus. Les modifications et les travaux importants concernent d'une part le parcellaire et les techniques de repiquage, d'autre part les innombrables ouvrages d'irrigation construits, dont la qualité est variable mais en progrès semble-t-il. Il n'y aurait pas eu de baisse ou de hausse sensible dans la production, mais une augmentation des exportations qui serait une des causes de la famine.Martin Marie Alexandrine.
