French and Siamese diplomatie relations begin between 1680 and 1685. A first Siamese mission in 1680 is shipwrecked on its road to France. King Phra Narai sends messengers to Louis XIV in 1684, undoubtedly because of his new favourite, the Greek Constance Phaulkon, who has very ambitious plans for Siam and who searches European supports to realise them. Louis XIV, who is convinced that Phra Narai will accept to become a Christian, sends an embassy in 1685 officially to obtain the Siamese King's conversion. But the King does not become Christian and sends a new embassy in 1686 with Father Tachard, a Jesuit, who cames the hopes of Constance Phaulkon on obtaining soldiers and confidential agents for the infiltration of Siam under his authority...
