Sweden's involvement with slavery was minimal. What there was took place in its Caribbean possession, St. Barthélémy, during the period 1784-1847. Although the Swedish West India Company was authorized to participate in the slave trade, it never did so directly. Illegal slave transactions did take place in the Swedish colony during the early 1820's, but the numbers and amounts involved were not significant.
