Scarcely known among the Spanish scholars in France, Gerardo Deniz (Juan Almela Castell's pen name) is, in Mexico, one of the great contemporary poetic voices, original and sarcastic. Born in Madrid (1943), and son of a republican exile (Juan Almela Meliá), Deniz is usually considered as one of the Hispano-Mexicans, but, unlike the others, speaks very little about exile.
