Fouille de la place Antonin Poncet à Lyon

The place Antonin Poncet is right at the heart of Lyon, near the place Bellecour. The archeological research done on this area has now for the most part been completed by additional laboratory analyses (using dendrochronology and sedimentology), by research in the archives and by the study of ceramics and glassware unearthed during the dig. The multidisciplinary nature of the work has enabled better under standing of modem urban developments in one sector and the évolution ofthe micro-community as a whole. There were three major developments : an embankment bulit in the mid sixteenth century, the establishment of the Hospital de la Charité on the rue de la Charité at the beginning of the seventeenth century, andfinally the creation of the place de la Charité in the mid seventeeth century. The study of particulary interesting samples ofceramic and glassware discovered during the excavations for modem constructions in wells and septic tanks has also shed light on the tableware used in seventeenth century Lyon.La place Antonin Poncet est située au centre de la presqu'île lyonnaise, à proximité de la place Bellecour. Les recherches archéologiques effectuées sur ce terrain ont été largement complétées par des analyses menées en laboratoire (dendrochronologie, sédimentologie), par des recherches d'archives et enfin par l'étude de la céramique et du verre recueillis au cours de la fouille. Ce travail pluridisciplinaire a permis d'appréhender l'urbanisme moderne d'une partie de ce quartier et d'en comprendre l'évolution. Celle-ci se fait à travers trois éléments principaux : la construction du mur de berge au milieu du XVIe siècle, l'installation de l'hôpital de la Charité au début du XVIIe siècle, et enfin la création de la place de la Charité à partir du milieu du XVIIe siècle. Des structures enterrées (puits et fosses septiques) en relation avec l'habitat moderne ont livré un matériel, très intéressant, de céramiques et de verres. L'étude de ces lots constitue un élément important pour la connaissance du vaisselier lyonnais au XVIIe siècle.Becker Christine, Macé S., Mandy M.-O., Vicard T., Auger M.
