The site of Saint-Gilles -le-Vieux, where a "villa" is mentioned at the beginning of the XIth century, is situated in the Vidourle valley, at three kilometres north of Aimargues (Gard). A salvage excavation, realised in connection with excavation work for the Mediterranean T.G.V. (High Speed Train), permitted to explore areas dedicated to farming and comprising essentially some ditches, pits and silos spreading over the protohistory and the Middle Ages. As for the period between the VIIth and the XIIth century, the ceramic documentation permits to develop studies in course, notably the enrichment of the corpus thanks to the presence of complete potteries.
