Late Latin grammatical treatises are a very valuable source for tracing back the origins of the terminology related to numerals. The writings of Priscian, a grammarian who lived at the end of the 5th century, is particularly useful for this purpose. In his works, in fact, one finds the very first occurrence of Latin numerale and the first attestation of the numeral meaning of Latin cardinalis and ordinalis.Les grammairiens latins tardifs constituent une source très importante pour reconstituer la genèse de la terminologie qui se rapporte aux principaux types de numéraux. À cet égard, l’oeuvre de Priscien, qui date de la fin du Ve s., s’avère particulièrement utile : elle atteste pour la première fois le terme numerale, ainsi que les adjectifs cardinalis et ordinalis employés au sens numérique.Dragotto F.
