When does language -which is already a kind of knowledge, cognitio clara confusa -become an object of knowledge ? Considering the two functions of language – communication and cognition – communicative problems seem to generate linguistic knowledge in the first place, a practical kind of knowledge whose institutional place is the School. Cognitive linguistic problems first arise when cognition itself is taken into consideration. The traditional place of that linguistic reflection is philosophy.
