Psychanalyse, histoire et espace public

In France, the works of Karen Homey, Erich Fromm, Erik. Erikson and Bruno Bettelheim are generally perceived as an expression of American ideology (of the "American way of Life " as enduring stereotype would have it). In fact, cultural psychoanalysis is an original response to the question expressly asked by Hannah Arendt, Theodor Adorno and others in the early fifties : how could totalitarianism prevail in Europe and challenge centuries of progress in civilization ? To answer the historical riddle, the four cultural Freudians rephrased the fundamental tenets of orthodox Freudian analysis and questioned the relevance of the Freudian paradigm in public debate after Auschwitz.Vus de France, les travaux de Karen Homey, Erich Fromm, Erik Erikson et Bruno Bettelheim tombent sous le coup du diagnostic sans appel de Jacques Lacan : la psychanalyse américaine est une traduction de l'American way of life. Une lecture débarrassée de ce type d'à priori idéologique permet d'envisager d'autres hypothèses, notamment celle présentée ici : la psychanalyse culturelle est une réponse à la question posée entre autres par Hannah Arendt et Theodor Adorno de l'émergence et des possibles résurgences du totalitarisme. Eu constatant les limites du paradigme freudien, ces auteurs posent le problème de la place de la psychanalyse dans l'espace public de l 'après Auschwitz.Di Mascio Patrick.
