This paper treats dictionary nomenclature as a reduction mechanism of the hyperlangue. Nomenclature is considered under a double perspective : that of language and that of discourse. We show three moments in the constitution of dictionaries in Brazil : the dictionaries of Brazilianisms of the late 19th century ; the first general Brazilian dictionaries of the 1930s and 1940s ; and the great dictionaries of the 1960s and 1970s that replace the Portuguese dictionaries. Each of these moments is marked by gestures of reducing the share of the hyperlangue.
