Some Remarks on Helen in the Odyssey. Looking for Mythographic and Narrative Innovations This article tries to explore some features of Helen based on mythographic elements which might belong to pre-homeric tradition. Helen doesn 'i seem to have handled her basic property, beauty, appropriately in the basic mythical versions of her history, yet she handled more appropriately through speech the situations in which she found herself precisely because of the unsuccessful management of beauty. The article also explores some questions concerning Helen V social, civic and institutional position ; strangely enough, when she is in Troy she is Helen "of Sparta", when she is in Sparta she is Helen "of Troy".
