Increasing the retirement age : a needed and equitable reform This paper argues that increasing the retirement age is a policy that is both needed for the financial viability of social security system and equitable from the viewpoint of low productivity workers. It also shows that the political unpopularity of such a reform comes from a deep misunderstanding as to the actual alternatives that society faces.
