Hard peg vs managed float for Asia small open economies : a case of Hong Kong and Singapore Some prominent economists have recently advocated that small and open economies adopt either irrevocably fixed or floating system because of the significant progress of financial international liberalization and globalization over the past decade. To answer the question as to which regime is more suitable for an Asia small open economy, the author contrasts the experiences of Hong Kong and Singapore in the long term and particularly during the Asian Financial Crisis.
