In Al-Si-Zylinderköpfen führen Start-Stopp-Zyklen zur thermomechanischen Ermüdung (TMF), die mit der Initiierung und dem Wachstum von Rissen in den kritischen Bereichen im Brennraumdach einhergeht. Ein großes Problem ist die starke Streuung der resultierenden Lebensdauer. Die in dieser Arbeit untersuchten Zylinderköpfe wurden mit dem Lost Foam Gießverfahren gefertigt. Durch die prozessbedingt niedrigen Abkühlraten enthält der Werkstoff eine hohe Anzahl an ausgedehnten und scharfkantigen Poren. Diese Defekte haben bei zyklischer Beanspruchung einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf die Rissinitiierung und das Risswachstum und damit auf die Lebensdauer.
