Salud Mental durante la pandemia COVID 19: Un reto en la tercera edad

Introduction: Mental disorders are very frequent in older adults, during the COVID 19 pandemic, this disease has been exacerbated and increasing the vulnerability of this group by modifying their lifestyles. Objective: The objective of this review is to establish and summarize the existing information related to mental health in the elderly during the COVID 19 pandemic. Materials and methods: A systematic review of indexed journals, PubMed, PMC, Elsevier, SciELO was conducted to select scientific articles with relevant content. Results: It has been identified that a significant percentage of older adults suffer from mental health problems. More than 20% of people over 60 years of age suffer from a mental or neural disorder (not counting those manifested by headache) and 6.6% of disability in this age group is attributed to mental disorders and of the nervous system. In short, the crisis because of the pandemic has generated anxiety, depressive, adaptation disorders, whose cognitive and emotional symptoms demand attention, which is why it is necessary to develop strategies to promote personal and community mental health. Conclusions: when human beings reach old age, they present many health problems, which makes it difficult to respond positively to stressors with grave consequences in the bio-psycho-social field. Dementia and depression are the most common neuro-psychiatric disorders at this age, all these factors increase the mortality rate.Introducción: Las alteraciones mentales son muy frecuentes en adultos mayores, durante la pandemia COVID 19, esta enfermedad se ha exacerbado y a aumentando la vulnerabilidad de este grupo modificando sus estilos de vida. Objetivo: El objetivo de esta revisión es establecer y resumir la información existente relacionada con la salud mental en el adulto mayor durante la pandemia COVID 19. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática de revistas indexadas, PubMed, PMC, Elsevier, SciELO para seleccionar artículos científicos con contenido relevante. Resultados: Se ha identificado que un porcentaje significativo de adultos mayores padecen problemas de salud mental. Más de un 20 % de las personas que pasan de los 60 años sufren algún trastorno mental o neural (sin contar los que se manifiestan por cefalea) y el 6,6 % de la discapacidad en ese grupo etario se atribuye a trastornos mentales y del sistema nervioso. En definitiva, la crisis a consecuencia de la pandemia ha generado trastornos de ansiedad, depresivos, adaptación, cuyos síntomas cognitivos y emocionales demandan atención, es por ello por lo que se requiere desarrollar estrategias para favorecer la salud mental personal y comunitaria. Conclusiones: el ser humano al llegar a la tercera edad presenta muchos problemas de salud, lo que dificulta responder positivamente a estresores con consecuencias graves en el ámbito bio-psico-social. La demencia y la depresión son los trastornos neuro-psiquiátricos más comunes en esta edad, todos estos factores incrementan el índice de mortalidad.&nbsp
