T he formation of derelict areas is one of the main concerns of contemporary city planning. These sites, despite the diversity of their shape and their contents, are considered a support for urban regeneration policies. The aim of these policies is to promote a new form of the local economy and a transformation of the image of the city. This comparative study is based on the redevelopment of derelict areas in some south European cities (France, Spain and Italy).
