Le mot «Juif» et le mot de « Juif» à l'étrange réfraction des dictionnaires (1762-1900)

This paper offers a free wandering in the columns and pages of french dictionaries, especially those of the beginning of XIXth century. This wandering is constraint by historical conditions : the history itself of the notion, on one hand, and, on the other hand, the semiotical pressure of the present uses of the notion and of the word that inflates the linguistic sign. No surprise in this respect if Juif is, at this time (1798-1890) a kind of hologram of the ideologies and behaviours of the language users and discourse makers, of which one of the main feature may be its capacity to reflect the inconsistency of a critical thinking of this notion.Cet article propose une libre déambulation dans les colonnes des dictionnaires qui, plus particulièrement au début du XIXe siècle, ont traité du mot Juif. Cette déambulation est conditionnée par un historique et s'inscrit dans le contexte de situations historiquement déterminées. On ne s'étonnera pas, dans ces conditions, de voir le mot Juif se comporter comme l'hologramme des idéologies et des comportements des usagers du langage et des praticiens des discours de cette époque, reflétant jusqu'aux incohérences d'un penser critique de la notion.Saint-Gérand Jacques-Philippe.
