Even if the methods of sex estimation and the concept of wealth are not that reliable, it can be interesting to try a gender archaeological study for the Oxus Civilisation. The comparative analysis between female burials and male burials excavated in three major urban sites of Bronze Age in Central Asia (Sapallitepe, Dzharkutan, Gonur-depe 1) reveals a distinct differentiation between funeral practices connected to each sex. This leads us to think about the distribution of activities and the forms of social relations between genders, and to note that social interpretations suggested up to now about womens' social position in the Oxus Civilisation are unfounded.
