Geography and networks economy. — Transport and telecommunication networks play an increasing role in the organisation of human activities. Economic theory has attempted to define intermediation and interconnection effects but has failed to solve some of the problems, which the geographical approach would seem more capable of solving. Geographers also recognise the role of networks in spatial organisation. The specific concepts and methods of geography can be useful to economists when describing infrastructure networks, when measuring the gaps between supply and demand in various locations, or building agreggated structures among a multitude of interactions.
