Urban growth and disorganization of self-managing agriculture in Algeria : the plain between Oran and Arzew. Urban and industrial growth entails locally in Algeria a rapid deterioration of good rural areas, especially among the self-managing estates, as evidenced in the plain between Oran and Arzew : agriculture is not only losing land, but also water and manpower. These farms keep only old and poorly skilled workers, and their gross product is gradually diminishing.
