This is a paper on the economy of Cistercian monasteries of Bohemia before 1250. Most of the Cistercian properties of Bohemia were founded on perception of rents from the very beginning of their existence. In addition to this the abbeys gradually built up their own manorial facilities on which they introduced manorial farms. The abbeys were streaming to develop both these sectors of their economy ; indeed, this economie bipolarity may have been typical for the Cistercian monasteries of medieval Bohemia. The influence of the Cistercian economie model may be discerned in the development of manorial economy (though this was never the sole source of monastic revenues) and in the implantation of the notion of the grange (that is, a farm manned ...
