Postmodern is both a concept and a period in time. Dating from May 1968 in France, postmodernism rejects legitimising discourse and both formalist and marxist rationalism, undermining them through deconstruction. With the gradual discrediting of structuralist linguistics and a new interest in history, philosophy and biology, the postmodernist adopts a stance that is neither archaic nor modern but which exists in an historic context. Through « renarrativisation », subjects are « reinvented » using techniques such as ironic rewriting (Echenoz, Toussaint, « historical » novels, Ransmayr, Härtling) or dissimulation (Manganelli, Perec, Pavic, Temesi).Kibédi Varga Áron.
