International audienceThis article focuses on a particular moment in the historiography of Harar (Eastern Ethiopia) : when the city declined, and the seat of power was transferred to the Awsa Oasis in 1576. Three chronicles, two of which are rewritings of the original version, were then composed. This historiographical ebullition reflects the scale of the disruption signified by the shift towards Awsa as well as the oppositions it sparked.
