The discovery, on the seulement of l'Auribelle-Basse (Pézenas), in a rubbish-pit dated of the mid-second century AD, of a bronze signaculum naming T. Iulius Paternus, led the authors of this article to work on the distribution and the chronology of this particular type of uten- sil. After having underlined the uncertainties still weighting on the precise use of such objects, they built a list a some sixty stamps with a confirmed findspot. The distribution map shows that they are diffused among the Roman colonies (not the latin civitates) of Gallia Narbonensis, where they are to be found on grouped settlements or villae, but not on minor sites.
