The post-war period is a complex one whose limits are hard to fix, in as much as something of its echo still vibrates today. After a careful scrutiny of several possible historical limits and partitions, we shall focus on the importance today of such a definition, a definition whose importance is mainly stressed by those who either wish to be rid of it or who believe it to be no longer relevant. Therefore, to be able to get free from the concept of post-war means to be able to determine precisely its starting point, so as to give it more reality, and to be better able to stigmatise it.
