J.-C. Bessac. — Data and hypothesis on the works in the quarries of the Estel near the Pont du Gard, Revue Archéologique de Narbonnaise, t. 25, 1992, p. 397-430. At the end of 1992, archeological soundings were started in the quarries located 600 meters below the Pont du Gard, on the left bank of the Gardon river in the locality of the Estel. These researches yielded very positive results and now allow to propose a few synthesis quite well supported on the functionning of this exploitation. The fronts and grounds of this quarry discovered under 4 to 6 meters of earth concern two main works : the first one is Roman and its production essentially aimed at the building of the Pont du Gard, while the second one is modern and concerns restorati...
