The developing brain demonstrates spontaneous electrical activity at the early embryonic stages. Electrical activity promotes birth, migration and integration of neurons, and formation of neuronal circuits in the developing mammalian cortex. Disruption of any of these processes may lead to misbalance and such neurological disorders as epilepsy, autism spectrum disorders, schizophrenia and other developmentally related pathologies.
