The most important aim of the programmes of labour market policy in Germany is the permanent integration of unemployed persons into regular employment. Besides microeconometric studies, macroeconometric approaches and estimations of costs and benefits are necessary to evaluate the different labour market measures. Microeconometric models using mostly matching methods are the basis for calculating the average employment effect of the measure. Until 2000 survey data sets are the data basis for microeconometric studies. Now administrative data of the Federal Employment Agency are available to analyze group-, regional-, and programme-specific employment effects.
