Uncertainty in Information Seeking

The aim of this project was to investigate several aspects of information seeking and searching in the context of a theoretical model of the problem-solving process, and incorporating existing models of successive searching and information seeking behaviour. The Project was carried out over a period of twenty-four months from October 1997, with an initial Pilot phase lasting from October 1997 to March 1998. During this period the data collection instruments were tested and evaluated and, as a result, a number of changes were made in the interview schedules and questionnaires. There then followed successive periods of data collection from volunteers. Data were collected on a total of 198 cases: 87 at North Texas and 111 at Sheffield, and various papers presenting the results are now in the course of preparation. This report is mainly an 'administrative' document, although the Appendices contain much of research relevance and it is expected that the site will be added to as further papers are produced
