Several markers as C-reactive protein and procalcitonin are used in the ICU to monitor the success of the treatment. Recently, studies about the prognostic value of cholesterol have been reported. In this case series we discuss cholesterol as a cheap and reliable marker for daily follow up, to monitor improvement or deterioration of patients in the ICU.</p
