This chapter reports a study on dynamically operated packed beds for CO2 capture from flue gases via cryogenic separation. The new process concept is described, the operation and influence of various operating conditions is studied with detailed modeling and an experimental proof-of-principle (at small lab-scale) and a proof-of-concept (at small pilot-scale) is provided, showing that the process can achieve an efficient separation of CO2 and other components from flue gases with a very high CO2 recovery. A techno-economic analysis is also given that shows that the new process can be competitive with other postcombustion capture processes such as amine scrubbing and membrane separation, when the cold duty is available at relatively low price...
